SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Sumter County Government announced construction will begin Monday, May 18, 2026, on an intersection improvement project at Morse Boulevard and Chitty Chatty Run/Sandalwood Drive.
County officials said the project is expected to take approximately 45 calendar days to complete, weather permitting.
According to officials, the project will include the installation of a directional median opening designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety at the intersection. The county said the project follows community concerns regarding traffic operations in the area. Officials conducted a traffic signal warrant analysis and feasibility study before determining the directional median opening was the preferred option to improve operations and reduce potential conflict points.
Once construction is complete, drivers traveling from Chitty Chatty Run and Sandalwood Drive will only be permitted to make right turns onto Morse Boulevard. Left turns from Morse Boulevard onto the side streets will still be allowed.
County officials said the updated traffic pattern is expected to reduce possible crossing conflict points from 36 to nine, lowering the risk of crashes and improving traffic flow for vehicles exiting the side streets.
During construction, motorists should expect temporary daytime lane closures on the inside lanes of Morse Boulevard and possible traffic delays. No nighttime work is currently planned. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
