ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Highway Patrol and other authorities are seeking additional information about a traffic incident that occurred in Alachua County on Sunday, May 24, 2026 in which a pedestrian was fatally struck by multiple vehicles which then fled the scene.

According to the FHP report, an unnamed pedestrian who was in the roadway for unknown reasons near the intersection of SW SR 24 and SW 81st St. at approximately 4:41 a.m. Sunday morning was struck by at least three vehicles. The first two unknown vehicles left the scene without stopping; the third vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old Chiefland woman, stayed on the scene and alerted authorities.

The report noted that the area was not illuminated by streetlights.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

“This is currently being worked as a criminal investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available,” reads the report, in part. “If you or anyone you know has information related to this incident, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol – Traffic Homicide Division at 386-754-6270.”
