MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – An early afternoon collision on CR 42 in southern Marion County resulted in one driver being killed, a passenger sustaining critical injuries and another fleeing the scene on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, a sedan traveling westbound on CR 42 just east of SE 105th Avenue crossed the line into oncoming traffic at approximately 1:45 p.m., striking a pickup traveling in the other direction head-on. The collision left considerable debris in the road, which was struck by a third vehicle, also heading westbound a few car lengths behind the sedan.
The driver of the sedan, a 30-year-old Leesburg man, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the car’s two passengers, a 27-year-old woman from Eustis, sustained critical injuries and was transported to the hospital, while an unidentified male of unknown age who was also in the car fled the scene.
The 32-year-old Summerfield man driving the pickup and his 4-year-old passenger sustained minor but insignificant injuries, according to the FHP report. None of the five people in the third vehicle was injured.
CR 42 was closed for around three hours after the collision as authorities investigated.
