MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Two pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles after entering major roadways on foot in separate incidents overnight Monday to Tuesday in Marion County.
The first occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026. According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 76-year-old man was walking in the eastbound lane of SR 326 just east of NW 40th Terrace for unknown reasons when he was struck by a 28-year-old Reddick man driving a sedan.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The second fatal incident occurred just a few hours later, at approximately 1:25 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Also according to a FHP report, a 50-year-old man from Loganville, GA was driving a tractor-trailer southbound in the center lane of I-75. As he navigated the overpass crossing U.S. HWY 27 at mile marker 354, an unidentified male of indeterminate age “darted into the southbound lanes directly in front of the tractor-trailer” and was struck.
The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eighteen pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles in Marion County in 2025, making it one of the deadliest counties in Florida for those traveling on foot.
