LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Unit took a Levy County man into custody peacefully on Tuesday after a standoff that lasted several hours.
According to a Levy County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded to a report of aggravated assault involving a firearm in the Manatee Farms area outside Chiefland.
The victim told deputies he was driving in the neighborhood and stopped in front of 13150 NW 82 Court to speak to a man doing maintenance at the edge of the road. According to his statement, the resident, 67-year-old Terry Cox, came out of the residence and began yelling at him to leave. Cox allegedly pointed a pistol at the victim, and the victim fled the area.
Deputies attempted to contact Cox, who had retreated back into the residence, but he refused to come to the door and barricaded himself inside.
The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Unit (TRU) arrived on the scene and began negotiating with Cox, who eventually surrendered peacefully after several hours. LCSO officers obtained a warrant for the home, and located a handgun inside.
Cox was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. He is being held in the Levy County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 bond.
