OCALA, FL (352today.com) – On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at approximately 11:53 a.m., Ocala Fire Rescue was called to respond to multiple reports of confined space emergencies due to severe weather conditions impacting the area.
Engines 2 and 5, Rescue 2, Squad 7, Battalion Chief 22, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the 3100 block of SE 8th Street following reports of a tree that had cracked and fallen onto a residence, bringing down power lines in the process.
Upon arrival, crews discovered extensive damage to the home. A large tree crashed through the roof, compromising the residence’s structural integrity by breaking through trusses and damaging areas from the kitchen and living room to a bedroom. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Shortly after addressing the first incident, crews received a second confined space call from a nearby residence just minutes away (3700 block of E. Fort King St.). Engines 1 and 5, Rescue 5, Squad 7, and Battalion Chief 22 were dispatched to the scene where another tree had fallen from a neighboring yard onto the fence and roof of a house next door. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident either.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a second bout of strong to isolated severe storms is anticipated to impact the Ocala area between the hours of 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Considering these conditions, Ocala Fire Rescue urges residents to stay indoors and adjust their plans accordingly for their safety.
