Summerfield gas leak repaired after road closure

Residents of Del Webb were asked to shelter in place while MCSO blocked the entrance to the community at U.S. HWY 441.

SUMMERFIELD, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Sheriff’s Office vehicles blocked the entrance to the Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf & Country Club adult community Wednesday afternoon, and authorities advised residents to shelter in place while TECO Energy addressed a ruptured gas line.

At around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, MCSO blocked the entrance to Del Webb at U.S. HWY 441 in response to reports of a gas leak in the area of SE 89th Court and Del Webb Boulevard.

Residents were advised not to go outside and others were told to avoid the area while the situation was addressed, and workers from TECO arrived on the scene to repair the leak.

MCSO later updated its social media post on the event to announce that “the leak has been mitigated and shelter in place guidance has been lifted.”
