LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in which a Levy County Sheriff’s Deputy shot a suspect who reportedly pointed a gun at them during a foot chase.
According to a report by the Levy County Sherrif’s Office, an unidentified deputy conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after ascertaining that the vehicle was registered to a subject wanted on a felony warrant out of Pinellas County.
The driver of the vehicle initially stopped, but fled when ordered to exit the vehicle.
The deputy pursued the suspect’s vehicle into Marion County, where the suspect ditched the vehicle near the 23200 block of W. HWY 40 and fled on foot.
The deputy pursued the suspect into a wooded area, where the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the deputy during the chase.
The deputy discharged their own gun, striking the suspect, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.
