LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A Chiefland man sought for the better part of a year on charges of crimes against children was apprehended over the weekend, according to an announcement by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office.

An investigation was opened last year into 28-year-old Laron Jackson after a Levy County Sheriff’s Office detective who works in the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that the subject was communicating with a minor online.

After determining Jackson had been communicating with a minor, and had sent harmful material, a warrant was obtained for Jackson’s arrest in October 2025.

Jackson was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol during a traffic stop on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and charged with transmission of harmful material to a minor and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

“Every parent should monitor their child’s activities on social media and be wary of predators targeting our children,” said Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum in the announcement. “The LCSO is committed to combating these horrific crimes and partner with fellow law enforcement agencies as well as the North Florida ICAC Task Force to apprehend these criminals.”

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
