DUNNELLON, FL (352today.com) – Once known as a bustling phosphate hub in the late 1800s, the city of Dunnellon is embracing its colorful past and small-town charm with the return of Boomtown Days, happening Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in historic downtown.
Hosted by the Dunnellon Chamber & Business Association, this family-friendly event celebrates the city’s history as a phosphate “boomtown” and invites residents and visitors alike to stroll through streets filled with craft and food vendors, live entertainment, an antique car show, and a dedicated kids zone.
The day’s highlights include the Queen of the Rainbow and Little Mr. and Miss Dunnellon pageants. Local artists will line the streets, showcasing their creativity, at the Boomtown Days Art Show.
According to Dunnellon.org, Dunnellon’s roots trace back to the discovery of phosphate in the late 19th century, which turned the town into a thriving economic center. Today, that same pioneering spirit lives on through community events like this one.
Parking is available at several locations including City Hall, behind Gruff’s Tap & Grill, and next to Southern Palate. Road closures will be in effect on W. Pennsylvania Avenue and Cedar Street from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
