MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack on America that took down New York City’s Twin Towers, damaged the the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and could’ve destroyed another federal building if not for the heroic actions of the passengers of American Airlines Flight 77.

A quarter of a century later, the world-changing event is still fresh in the minds of those old enough to have experienced it firsthand. And various municipalities throughout North Central Florida rean’t about to let the occasion go unremarked.

Here’s a list of 9/11 memorial events occurring this Friday across the 352.

Alachua County

September 11 Memorial Ceremony

A joint honor guard from Gainesville Fire Rescue and the Gainesville Police Department will precede moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m., the times when the first and second planes struck the Twin Towers, respectively. Local churches are being asked to toll their bells in a sign of unity. 8:30 a.m., City Hall Plaza, 200 E. University Ave., Gainesville.

Citrus County

City of Inverness 9/11 Ceremony & Exhibit

The public will gather at Liberty Park’s Depot Pavilion in Inverness for opening remarks by civic leaders and a remembrance ceremony. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to view a two-day exhibit “featuring Florida’s largest collection of 9/11 memorabilia, provided by the National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers (NARLEO).” The exhibit will be on display at the Valerie Theatre, 207 Courthouse Square, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and noon-7 p.m. Saturday. 8:30 a.m., Depot Pavilion, Liberty Park, 300 N. Apopka Ave., Inverness.

Lake County

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Lake County Historical Society and City of Tavares will hold a ceremony in the rotunda of the Lake County Administration Building, including a “table of honor” performed by Mount Dora High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) cadets. 9 a.m., Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.

Marion County

September 11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners invites the community to gather in solemn remembrance of those who lost their lives, and the heroes who gave the nation hope in its darkest of times. 8:30 a.m., Ocala Marion Veterans Memorial Park, 2601 E. Fort King St., Ocala.

City of Belleview

2026 Freedom Walk

Residents can gather at the Belleview Community Center in the evening to hear remarks from Mayor Christine Dobkowski, State Representative Ryan Chamberlin, and State Senator Stan McClain and experience a historical presentation. Afterwards, all are invited to participate in the traditional Freedom Walk through Lake Lillian Park. 6 p.m., Belleview Community Center, 5615 SE 110th Pl., Belleview.
