OCALA, FL (352Today.com) – As of July 1, 2026, Lotus Marion has become the certified provider of domestic violence services in Marion County, consolidating local support for survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault under one organization.

According to Alison Vasquez, director of outreach and prevention for Lotus Marion, the transition marks the culmination of community discussions that began in early to mid-2025. It aims to create a unified, locally based model after CASA Pinellas temporarily stepped in to prevent service gaps. Lotus Marion, formerly known as the Marion County Sexual Assault Center, is now the sole dual-certified provider of both service types.

Vasquez highlighted the benefits of the transition.

“A lot of times, domestic violence and sexual assault do have crossover,” she said. “A lot of survivors experience both within their situations.”

Staff and advocates are trained in both areas, allowing for more comprehensive support and easier access to services.

Expanded offerings include strengthened education and prevention programs targeting young people.

“We’ll definitely be able to really expand more into education and prevention, being able to educate our young people, have connections with our colleges, and be able to teach positive relationships, be able to talk about consent, and be able to pass that awareness, and really get ahead of the problem,” Vasquez said.

The organization is also rolling out expanded support groups, yoga, women’s empowerment programs and other wraparound services, supported by additional staff and advocates.

The first week of the transition has gone smoothly, with positive momentum and strong community support. Vasquez noted no major challenges, crediting local organizations and residents for their responsiveness. Funding comes through grants and ongoing community outreach, with updated brochures and business cards now available.

Contact information remains consistent for a smooth transition:

Services include a 24/7 helpline, crisis intervention, emergency shelter, advocacy, safety planning, accompaniment, support groups and housing stability assistance.

“We’re really excited about the transition,” Vasquez added.

“We know that there’s a need in our community, and we are very committed to supporting survivors and helping them get the resources that they need,” she continued.

This change represents a shift toward sustainable, locally led care, building on Lotus Marion’s recent rebranding and mission to emphasize safety, support and empowerment.
