MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – At Tuesday’s Marion County Commission meeting, the Board officially proclaimed March as National Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Month, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Ocala Chapter.
Since its founding on March 3, 1925, the Ocala Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) has dedicated itself to preserving American history, fostering education, and promoting patriotism – core values of the organization that align with the vision set forth by the nation’s founders.
The Ocala Chapter has played a significant role in preserving Marion County’s rich history. One of its most notable contributions was securing the cemetery plot at Fort King in 1927, ensuring the site’s legacy as a historic landmark. In the realm of education, the chapter has been a steadfast supporter of literacy, providing copies of the U.S. Constitution to local fifth graders and awarding scholarships to deserving students.
Beyond education and historic preservation, the chapter remains deeply committed to patriotism. Members actively support veterans and lead initiatives such as Constitution Week, which raises awareness about the country’s founding principles.
