MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County is home to two women’s clubs who strive to build a better community through fundraising efforts and supporting local initiatives. The Greater Ocala Women’s Club (GOWC) and the GFWC Woman’s Club of Ocala have served the Ocala and Marion County area for decades, shining as a beacon of support.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) has been serving communities since the 1890s, providing reforms as well as hosting projects and activities. Now, the GFWC and GOWC bring together volunteers and donors from around the county for community initiatives and local support. The GOWC serves as a non-profit volunteer organization that strives to directly impact the community with members of the club volunteering time to fundraising and collaborating with local charities on events. A few of the charities include Arnette House, Veterans Helping Veterans and CASA Marion.
A few of the projects and event the club has successfully supported and brought to life include Heart of the Hero, Interfaith’s High Tea, fundraising for CASA Marion, Kentucky Derby Murder Mystery fundraiser and plenty more. Some of their community service programs include their Signature Program to bring awareness to domestic and violence; Arts Community Service Program dedicated to create, encourage and support artistry and the Civic Engagement Program to connect and educate members about the citizenship responsibility and various needs in the community. These are a few of the initiatives the clubs strive to bring awareness and encourage engagement.
During their monthly meeting in April, the club recounted some of their successful initiatives including their support for CASA Marion. Shelby Kearns with CASA Marion shared the services the provide for the community and how support from the community and women’s club helps their goals of providing a safe space in Ocala. Club members read appreciation letters from recipients of donations from fundraising efforts as well as students who received scholarships from the club initiatives, showcasing the impact of their fundraising efforts.
The GFWC’s recent meeting took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at the Ocala Police Department at 402 S. Pine Ave., marking their final meeting of the 2025-2026 year as they transition to the 2026-2027 year.
