INVERNESS, FL (352today.com) – The owner of Storm Distillery in downtown Inverness died on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, days after being critically injured in an explosion and fire at the business, according to statements from the distillery.

David Mohr, the owner of Storm Distillery, died after suffering injuries in the April 17 explosion at the distillery located on North Apopka Ave. in downtown Inverness.

The explosion, which also sparked a fire, injured three people and prompted a large emergency response that shut down parts of downtown Inverness for several hours. One of the injured was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in critical condition following the incident. Mohr remained hospitalized after the blast before succumbing to his injuries days later.

The Mohr family and Storm employees posted the following collective statement on the distillery’s Facebook page on April 21:

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved David Mohr, owner of Storm Distillery. As many of you know, David was involved in a recent accident, and despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he has peacefully passed away.

We are deeply moved by the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community over the last few days. Your kindness has been a source of strength for our family.

At this time, we kindly ask for privacy as we process this profound loss and focus on honoring David’s memory. Information regarding services will be shared at a later date.”

Officials have not released a cause for the explosion. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident.
