EUSTIS, FL (352today.com) – Pine Meadows Conservation Area in Lake County has been temporarily closed after an alligator attacked a cow at the waterline on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The alligator attempted to pull the cow into the water, injuring the animal to the point that it had to be humanely euthanized.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers responded and attempted to locate and remove the alligator, but as of this reporting have been unsuccessful. The area is closed until the gator has been found.

We’re coming into alligator mating season here in North Central Florida, when the animals are more active and aggressive. Residents and visitors are reminded to be even more alert than usual when in or around our bodies of water.
