MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Professional Fire Fighters of Marion County will return to negotiations with the county tomorrow, Thursday, May 7, 2026, in an attempt to lock down a new contract acceptable to both parties.

The current contract between the county and PFFMC expires June 20, 2026.

The PFFMC are considered union employees, a relative rarity in the State of Florida, and as such may collectively bargain concerning their contractual agreements with and obligations to Marion County.

Negotiations began back in August of 2025, and both parties seem eager to reach an agreeable contract.

“The PFFMC began negotiations with three simple goals: improving the work schedule, improving retention of experienced members, and bringing consistency to the work of everyday first responders in Marion County,” read a PFFMC announcement.

“Negotiations are currently focused on the work schedule and wages, with both sides working to find a responsible middle ground compromise.”

This meeting is open to the public.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Thursday, at the rear of the Marion County Veterans Service Building at the Marion County Health Hub, 2730 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.
