MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The driver and sole occupant of a pickup truck was killed Sunday night when the truck veered off the road, truck multiple obstacles and burst into flame.
According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the unidentified driver was headed south on Marion Oaks Course at approximately 7:30 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, August 23, 2026, when, just past the intersection of SW 141st Lane, the truck veered off the road to the left, into the grassy center median.
The driver then overcorrected, careening across the roadway back to the right, leaving the roadway in that direction. The vehicle collided with a standing mailbox, went into a slide, hit a tree and burst into flames.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
This was the second single-vehicle collision resulting in a fatality of the weekend; on Saturday morning, a 43-year-old Weirsdale man died after the pickup he was driving left the roadway, hit a pole and a fence, and flipped.
