WILDWOOD, FL (352today.com) – The City of Wildwood has begun construction on an infrastructure improvement project along Barwick Street between Warfield Avenue and St. Clair Street, with additional work planned near Osceola Avenue.

According to city officials, the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements, utility upgrades and restoration work. The city said historic oak trees located in medians will be preserved wherever possible during construction.

“This area has experienced drainage and flooding concerns, particularly after heavy rainfall,” Public Works Director Jeremy Hockenbury said in a statement. “We are addressing these localized challenges throughout the city systemically, neighborhood by neighborhood. I’m thrilled our contractor was available to begin so quickly on this one.”

Construction began this week and is expected to take about nine months to complete. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and use caution while traveling through the construction zone. The public can expect delays, temporary lane or road closures, possible detours, heavy equipment and construction crews in the area throughout the project.

Residents living within work zones will continue to have access to their properties during construction, according to the city.

More information about the project is available through the city’s capital project dashboard. Residents with project-specific questions can call 352-330-1343.
