GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Mother Nature is dishing out a wide range of weather impacts over the next 24 hours.
First, fog could complicate your morning commute on Tuesday.
Before the cold weather arrives this evening, the National Weather Service says strong to isolated severe thunderstorms threaten areas of north-central Florida during the late morning and early afternoon hours on Tuesday. Hazards include strong wind gusts of 40-60 mph, heavy downpours and the potential for isolated tornadoes.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hard freeze warning from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday for parts of north Florida including Dixie County. A hard freeze warning is issued when temperatures are expected to be below 28 degrees.
Most of the rest of the 352 area is under a freeze warning from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday. This includes Alachua and Marion Counties.
The NWS says to expect sub-freezing temperatures as low as 20 degrees.
The meteorologists say frost and freeze conditions are dangerous for vulnerable people and pets. The cold temps will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS advises you to take steps Tuesday to prepare for the frigid weather inclding:
- take measures to protect young children and the elderly
- ensure outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold
- protect tender plants from the cold by bringing them indoors or covering them
- protect outdoor water pipes by wrapping, draining, or allowing them to drip slowly
- in-ground sprinkler systems should be drained and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing
