MIAMI, FL (352today.com) – According to the National Hurricane Center, an area of low pressure in the Atlantic Ocean stands a 60 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours to seven days.
The latest NHC report, from 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, says the system, still located a few hundred miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands off Africa’s west coast, hasn’t changed in the last few hours, but that “environmental conditions are somewhat favorable for development over the next couple of days, and a tropical depression could form over the next day or two as the system moves westward to northwestward near 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.”
There is good news too, however.
“Environmental conditions are forecast to become less conducive by this weekend, potentially ending its chances for development,” read the report.
