MIAMI, FL (352today.com) – The latest update from the National Hurricane Center introduces Tropical Storm Dolly (wow, too soon, NHC), and warns that those with properties and interests in the Leeward Islands should be paying attention now.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s 11 a.m. EDT update on Thursday, August 27, Tropical Storm Dolly is currently approximately 2,500 miles from Florida. The storm is heading west at 24 miles an hour, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
It’s way too early for the 352 to get nervous, however. For one thing, if Dolly were to continue on its current westward trajectory, it would pass well to the south of the state and hit landfall in Central America. For another, the NHC report says that “environmental conditions are expected to become hostile beginning on Friday, likely ending its chances for further development.”
That said, the NHC advised that those with interests in the Leeward Islands—which lie about 600 miles southeast of Miami and include the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, among many others—begin monitoring the situation closely.
