MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – People living near Lake Weir and the Carney Island Recreation and Conservation Area are going to see and hear some aerial activity for the next two days.
Marion County has issued a notice that there will be low-flying aircraft in that area on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16.
The county says this is related to a private event that is being staged within the Carney Island Recreation and Conservation Area which is southeast of Ocala.
352today attempted to learn more about the nature of the activity and was only able to confirm that the event involves helicopters.
We wanted to know if this “private event” was for training, a demonstration, or perhaps a family fun day for a governmental agency or private business.
“Helicopters will be utilized for the event,” said Sara Lambert, Community Engagement Coordinator for Marion County Parks & Recreation. “I do want to stress that this is a private event and only open to those participating and their families.”
When pressed for more information, Lambert responded saying it was not a county event and Carney Island is merely a staging site.
“The notice is issued to alert residents and guests to the Lake Weir community and law enforcement in case of calls or reports of concerns given that low-flying aircraft were expected on that day,” said Stacie Causey, Marion County Public Relations Manager.
352today also checked with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to see if they could provide any insight and a spokesperson said he no additional information.
