SUMTER COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – It’s April and that means spring cleaning! If you have any unneeded household electronics and hazardous waste you need to get rid of, now is a great time.

Sumter County is making it easy for you with an Amnesty Day this weekend.

The county is hosting its second Amnesty Day of the year at the Lake Okahumpka Park on Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The address for the park is 6085 E State Road 44 in Wildwood.

You can drop off any items on the eligible list at no cost.

Eligible items

  • Automotive Fluids
  • Batteries
  • Herbicides
  • Propane tanks up to 5 pounds
  • Cleaners
  • Household electronics (TVs, VCRs, computers, etc.)
  • Rechargeable household batteries
  • Oil and latex paints
  • Solvents
  • Pool chemicals

County officials say each year residents drop off more than 100,000 pounds of recycled material and over 50,000 pounds of hazardous material.

The county won’t accept biological/infectious waste, explosives, radioactive waste, empty paint cans, and tires.

Following this weekend’s drop-off day, the next Amnesty Day will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Garry Breeden Public Works Building located at 319 East Anderson Avenue in Bushnell.
