OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A new system in the Gulf of Mexico will likely develop into something more.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that tropical cyclone six is expected to become Tropical Storm Francine later today. While the storm is expected to eventually make landfall along the Gulf coast of Mexico, it could have some impacts in the 352.
The NHC says that the disturbance is moving north-northwest at about five miles per hour and is expected to pick up speed beginning late Tuesday.
The disturbance is predicted to travel just off the northern Gulf Coast of Mexico until Tuesday and is likely to get closer to the coastlines of Louisiana and Upper Texas by Wednesday.
How does this affect the 352?
The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that our area is facing a higher risk of rip currents and rougher waves from Wednesday to at least Friday.
Additionally, we should prepare for heavy rainfall locally from Wednesday into Thursday as a warm front moves up from the Gulf.
