TALLAHASSEE, FL (352today.com) – Just a week ago, a well-known “honorary” Florida native known for his contagious spirit died after his battle with cancer.
In honor of the late Jimmy Buffet and one of his famous songs “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” Governor DeSantis is directing all United States flags and Florida state flags to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol, and the Monroe County Courthouse in Key West until 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Buffett moved to Key West, Florida to “build a legacy” during the early stages of his life. His legacy continues to live on today, as you’ll see “Margaritaville” all over the country, representative of Buffett’s “Floridays” spirit.
Floridians “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season” are encouraged to commemorate the legacy of our adopted native son by raising their margarita glass and enjoying a cheeseburger here in paradise to wish the “Son of a Son of a Sailor” well, said DeSantis.
Buffett’s life speaks for itself. He was an inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2000. Buffett also led many efforts to protect one of Florida’s rarest mammals – the manatee – and helped orchestrate the “Save the Manatee” license plates. He showed his appreciation for the Sunshine State through his music, dedication and philanthropy.
