OCALA, FL (352today.com) – What’s being described as an “accidental shooting” took the life of Polina Wright.
On September 19, 2024, the Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to a reported shooting in the Highlands area of southeast Ocala. They say it was Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Deputy Leslie Boileau who made the call, sharing that he accidentally shot his girlfriend.
When officers arrived, they say they found the victim with a deadly gunshot wound on her forehead. There was a 9mm handgun on her lap and a rifle nearby. Boileau admitted that the shooting happened as they were handling the firearms, saying it was an accident.
Boileau was taken in for questioning. OPD says that he explained that after getting back from dinner, both he and the victim were cleaning their guns. But during a demonstration with a rifle, a loaded round went off accidentally, leading to the fatal outcome.
OPD shares that a search warrant at Boileau’s place backed up his story with the evidence found at the scene. Consequently, Boileau has been arrested for manslaughter due to his involvement in the shooting.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.” said OPD Chief Mike Balken. “The Ocala Police Department is working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure justice is served.”
