SUMMERFIELD, FL (352today.com) – A gas leak in the 14000 block of SE 90th Terrace prompted a swift response from the Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) Special Operations HAZMAT team on Monday afternoon.

At 1:24 p.m., a MCFR says that a 911 caller reported a strong gas odor outside a home. Firefighters from MCFR Spruce Creek Station #30 arrived at 1:29 p.m. and confirmed a heavy odor of gas in the area. They say that one home was evacuated as a precaution, and traffic into the area was blocked to ensure public safety.

The Special Operations HAZMAT team arrived at 1:48 p.m. and identified the source of the leak: a 250-gallon steel tank with an active fuel leak. HAZMAT technicians quickly mitigated the situation by removing all the fuel from the tank.

The scene was declared safe following the operation. No injuries were reported.
