OCALA, FL (352today.com) – HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital have announced their sponsorship of the inaugural Children’s Charity Classic, a free family-friendly event created by the United Way of Marion County to support underprivileged children.
As the Grand Prix sponsor, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital are helping the event raise $100,000 to benefit 10 nonprofit organizations that assist vulnerable children in the community. The United Way selected the recipients through an application process.
“Our purpose today is to rally support for the nonprofit organizations that will share in the proceeds of the Children’s Charity Classic,” said Alan Keesee, CEO of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. “We at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital know that those organizations work hard to promote the health and welfare of children, which certainly aligns with our hospitals’ overall mission to care for and improve each human life above all else.”
The event will incorporate Marion County’s equestrian culture, pairing show-jumping teams with each nonprofit. Riders will compete in costumes reflecting a classic children’s book associated with their charity.
“Marion County is a community of wealth and great need,” said Robert Haight, president and CEO of United Way of Marion County. “Our goal is to create a legacy event with the equine community, business leaders, and philanthropists to improve opportunities for children living in Marion County.”
The Children’s Charity Classic will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at HITS Post Time Farm, 13710 N. U.S. 27, Ocala. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Entry is free, with a suggested $10 cash donation per vehicle for parking. Festival-style seating is available, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and wear costumes supporting their favorite team.
