OCALA, FL (352today.com) – With fewer than 100 days left until the official start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is urging residents to take proactive steps in preparing for potential storms.
“As we count down to the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, I strongly encourage all Floridians to take the necessary steps to prepare now,” said FDEM Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “Be proactive by stocking up on crucial emergency supplies, securing your home, and going over your family’s disaster plan. The hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the peak of storm activity typically occurring in September. To ensure residents are ready, FDEM has outlined several key preparedness steps:
- Make a Plan: Every household should develop a disaster plan that accounts for family members, pets, and seniors.
- Know Your Zone, Know Your Home: Determine if you live in an evacuation zone or flood-prone area and assess your home’s ability to withstand strong winds and heavy rain.
- Stay Informed: Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as a battery-operated radio or weather apps, and sign up for local emergency alerts at FloridaDisaster.org/AlertFlorida.
- Secure Your Home: Make any necessary repairs to strengthen your home against storm damage.
- Stock Up on Emergency Supplies: A disaster supply kit should contain at least seven days’ worth of food, water, and medicine for every household member, including pets.
