MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Forest Service (FFS) – Waccasassa Forestry Center is conducting a prescribed burn today, Thursday, Feb. 27, in Marion County.

A 32-acre prescribed burn is taking place in the northwest corner of Ross Prairie State Forest.

The FFS explains that prescribed burns are carefully planned fires set under controlled conditions by fire experts to maintain ecosystem health. These burns help improve wildlife habitats, reduce hazardous vegetation buildup, and lower the risk of severe wildfires.
