OCALA, FL (352today.com) – An incident on March 1 claimed the life of a female pedestrian in Ocala. Around 9:15 p.m., Ocala Police Department (OPD) says that officers responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in the 4500 block of NW Blitchton Rd.
According to OPD Traffic Homicide Investigator Gallops, a 2011 Mazda was traveling east in the inside lane of NW Blitchton Rd. when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the road in a wheelchair. Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
OPD expresses that, “Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time.”

The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and is cooperating, according to authorities.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
