Strong winds and high dispersion rates prompt burn ban in Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, and Putnam counties on March 4, 2025
MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Forest Service – Waccasassa Forestry Center has announced that no outdoor burn authorizations will be issued today in Marion County as well as Gilchrist, Levy, and Putnam counties due to hazardous weather conditions.
Officials cite forecasts predicting extremely high dispersion rates and wind gusts up to 21 mph, which can contribute to erratic fire behavior and rapid fire spread. These conditions create a heightened wildfire risk, making it unsafe to conduct outdoor burns.
