MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – If you were planning to burn yard debris, light a bonfire, or gather around the fire pit today, you’ll need to wait.
The Florida Forest Service – Waccasassa Forestry Center has announced that no outdoor burn authorizations will be issued today, Tuesday, May 20, in Marion, Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, and Putnam counties due to heightened fire danger.
Officials say the decision is based on dry conditions and extremely high atmospheric dispersion levels — factors that can lead to erratic fire behavior and rapid spread.
- Fire Readiness Level: 2 out of 5
- Current bans: No mandatory bans, but Marion County remains under a voluntary burn ban
- Applies to: Yard waste, bonfires, fire pits, and other open outdoor burning
The daily burn restriction is based on weather data provided by the U.S. National Weather Service – Jacksonville. You are asked to avoid any activity that could spark a fire and to stay aware of changing conditions.
