BELLEVIEW, FL (352today.com) – A 17-year-old Belleview High School student is facing charges after authorities say he brought a firearm onto school premises.
A school resource officer received a tip on May 20 that 17-year-old Camren Moisell had a firearm in his vehicle, which was parked in the lot at Belleview High School.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says the student who reported the firearm told deputies that Moisell had shown the gun to fellow students the day before.
According to witnesses, Moisell told his peers that the gun was real, unloaded it, and gave it to another student to hold.
Moisell arrived on campus shortly after the incident was reported and was questioned by authorities. He consented to search his person and vehicle; however, the deputies came out empty-handed.
Later that same day, another student told deputies that Moisell returned to class after the search and told other students that he had already removed the gun from his car, wrapped the gun in a black t-shirt, and thrown it into the woods behind his vehicle.
School Resource Officer Corey Stone then returned to Moisell’s vehicle, where he located a worn path into the woods which led to the black t-shirt with a firearm inside.
Moisell was then removed from class and refused to answer questions about the firearm, but deputies say he told them that he brought the gun to school.
Moisell was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. After a brief stay, he was transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
