REDDICK, FL (352today.com) – An early morning crash in Reddick left a driver trapped and seriously injured after their pickup truck overturned and landed upside down in a field.

At 5:32 a.m. on June 23, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) was called to the 5400 block of West Highway 329. The crash was first reported through an iPhone crash alert, followed by a phone call from the injured driver to the Public Safety Communications Center.

Engine #11 arrived within six minutes and found the pickup truck upside down in a field. The truck had crashed through a wooden fence, and the driver was trapped inside. Pieces of the broken fence had injured the driver, making the rescue more difficult.

Firefighter paramedics started helping the driver right away while more units arrived. Crews from Sparr Anthony, Orange Lake worked together on the rescue.

Firefighters used special tools to carefully cut the roof off the truck. Because the fence boards had pierced parts of the truck and injured the driver, rescuers had to work very slowly and carefully. By 6:03 a.m., the driver was freed.

Due to the serious injuries, the driver was declared a trauma alert and was taken to a local hospital. The driver’s name and condition have not been released.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
