MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Forest Service – Waccasassa Forestry Center is conducting a 125-acre prescribed burn today, Wednesday, June 25, at Indian Lake State Forest.
The burn area is located:
- South of NE 97th Street Road
- West of NE 58th Avenue/Baseline Road
- North of County Road 326
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding areas, but officials say it is not expected to impact nearby roadways.
Prescribed burns are carefully planned fires conducted by trained professionals under specific weather conditions. These burns play a key role in maintaining forest health, improving wildlife habitat, reducing excess vegetation, and lowering the risk of severe wildfires.
