GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art will be hosting local poets and storytellers for an evening of meaningful connection. Join the museum for Art After Dark’s Museum Night: WORD! on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Art After Dark is part of a recurring series that provides opportunities to explore new exhibits and experience art in uplifting ways.

This open-mic night will be hosted from 6-9 p.m. at 3259 Hull Rd, Gainesville. This event will be held in partnership with ARTSPEAKS and the BARD & Broadside’s North Central Florida Poetry Festival.

Winners of the annual art writing competition, Word on Canvas, will read their works from the competition. Alongside the Word on Canvas winners, everyone will have the opportunity to share poetry and stories during the open mic. Guests are also welcome to attend to listen to the creative works for a relaxing evening of stories and participate in activities on display throughout the museum.

Throughout the event, a variety of activities will be taking place for guests to explore. Theatre Strike Force will host an improv comedy show for live entertainment in the rotunda space. The museum will have a new exhibition called “Florida in the Frame: A Century of Artist’s Reflections on the Sunshine State.” Guests can take a peek at this new exhibit between poetry sessions. For those looking for an interactive experience, there will be MUSE-led art activities throughout the area to take part in making the art.

The following Art After Dark will take place next Thursday, April 16 from 5-9 p.m. with works on display in “Metamorphosis: Reshaping Contemporary Art.” The open mic night and entertainment is free to indulge in with bites and refreshments.
