GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Alachua County Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center is seeking volunteers for its Community Ambassador Program, a public outreach initiative aimed at increasing awareness of interpersonal violence prevention and available support services in the community.

The program provides volunteers with 15 hours of training followed by a shadowing period and requires a six-month commitment. Applications are due May 18, with training scheduled to begin May 20.

Officials said Community Ambassadors play an active role in public health outreach by helping staff engage residents at community events, develop educational displays and assist with presentations focused on violence prevention and awareness.

“Our Community Ambassadors help us show up in the community in meaningful ways,” said Bethan O’Connor, supervisor of the Community Ambassador Program. “They bring the energy and connection that allows us to better support and serve others.”

Ambassadors may also assist with organizing outreach events and providing general support to program staff. Volunteers are expected to participate in approximately two hours of outreach work each week.

Those interested must complete a volunteer application and indicate availability for outreach activities. The center is also offering additional information for those interested in learning more about other volunteer opportunities, including helpline counseling.

More information about the program is available by contacting Bethan O’Connor at 352-264-6765 or boconner@alachuacounty.us.
