GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Gainesville’s Afternoon Restaurant has earned a recommendation from the Michelin Guide, placing the popular brunch destination among a select group of Florida restaurants recognized in the prestigious culinary publication’s first statewide edition.

Located at 231 NW 10th Ave., Afternoon was one of 38 restaurants across Florida to receive a Michelin recommendation in 2026. The recognition comes as the Michelin Guide expanded beyond its previous focus on the Miami, Orlando and Tampa regions to evaluate restaurants throughout the entire state.

Michelin inspectors evaluate restaurants based on five criteria: the quality of ingredients; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of flavors; the personality of the chef reflected in the cuisine; and consistency across the menu and over time. Restaurants receiving a recommendation are recognized for offering high-quality dining experiences, even if they do not receive a Michelin Star or Bib Gourmand designation.

The 2026 Michelin Guide Florida selection includes 200 restaurants spanning 41 cuisine types statewide. Two restaurants earned new one-star distinctions this year, while 38 establishments, including Afternoon, were added to the list of recommended restaurants.

Afternoon was the only Gainesville restaurant included among the guide’s recommended establishments and one of only a handful of restaurants recognized in North Florida as Michelin expanded its reach across the state.

The recognition is expected to bring additional attention to Gainesville’s growing culinary scene, as Michelin recommendations are widely regarded as one of the restaurant industry’s most respected honors.
