OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A rider has filed a negligence lawsuit against an Ocala horse training facility after he was allegedly seriously injured when his horse stepped into a large hole on a training track and fell on top of him.
According to a complaint filed Monday, June 1, 2026, in Marion County Circuit Court, Marco A. Rivera is suing Nelson Jones Farms & Training Center of Ocala, LLC, claiming the facility failed to maintain safe conditions on its property, and stated the hole created a dangerous condition for riders and horses using the training track.
The lawsuit alleges Rivera was riding on a track designated for horse training when his horse stepped into a large hole that was not visible to riders. The complaint states the horse tripped and fell forward, throwing Rivera from the saddle before the horse landed on top of him.
Court records indicate Rivera suffered a crushing injury to his back as a result of the incident. The complaint further alleges that he was wearing a helmet at the time and had no opportunity to avoid the accident because the hazard was not apparent.
Rivera claims the training center knew or should have known about the condition and failed to properly inspect, maintain or repair the area. The lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $50,000, excluding court costs, for injuries and losses allegedly sustained in the incident.
The case remains pending in Marion County Circuit Court.
