OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It was three years ago today, August 29, 2026, that North Central Florida Media launched 352Today as an online venue for free, unbiased local news from Ocala, Marion County and the surrounding area.

“We recognize the importance of staying connected. Establishing a news division is a natural extension of the community connection we have long provided as broadcasters. I’m excited to further connect with people through this digital platform,” said Howard Tuuri, NCFM Vice President and General Manager at the time, in an announcement the day before the site went live.

“The 352today mission is to provide timely, relevant, trusted, and unbiased local news and information, for free,” Tuuri continued. “352today.com aims to be the primary source of news, events, and stories that matter most to North Central Florida residents, fostering a strong sense of unity and engagement.”

Three years later, Howard is back in Tampa and enjoying his (recent) retirement, and Lisa Varner is running the show. Some editors, media managers and writers (RIP Ben Baugh–miss you, buddy) have come and gone.

I took the editor-in-chief position here at 352Today just a year ago. I wasn’t here for the launch, or the first two years of the website’s existence.

But I’m proud to say I joined an organization that has held to the mission Howard outlined in that very first press release.

From weather updates, crime and political news to arts, events and restaurant openings and closings, 352Today has kept the community informed (and hopefully sometimes entertained) with hyperlocal, straight-up-the-middle coverage. Without an agenda. Without a paywall.

But without you, we’re nothing.

Over three years, 352Today has built a curious, engaged and active base of users among residents of the 352, and hopefully we’ve earned some trust along the way. If nobody visited the site, followed our socials, and reached out with tips, comments and criticism, all the ad support in the world wouldn’t matter.

What would be the point?

Because you, and our relationship with you, are the point.

Thank you so much for three years of reading, following, and feedback. Thank you so much for letting us know this was a good idea–a viable one, a valuable one.

Thanks for three great years.

Here’s to many more.
