GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The University of Florida Women’s Basketball team took their talents off of the court and spent some time visiting students at a Gainesville elementary school this week.

Terwilliger Elementary School’s Extended Day Enrichment Program became much more exciting when members of the women’s basketball team arrived.

Florida Victorious, the organization designed to help student-athletes participate in volunteer work and receive compensation for their name, image and likeness (NIL), created the opportunity for the players to get the chance to spend some time with the next generation.

The afterschool program allowed students and players to connect with each other through a variety of activities.

“They brought more than just their basketball skills; they brought big hearts and bright smiles. The kids were overjoyed to play various games, but the highlight was definitely the super fun game of Trash-sketball! It wasn’t just about shooting hoops; it was about teamwork, laughter, and learning,” stated Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) in a Facebook post.

Athletes also got the opportunity to read with the students.

“Seeing our young learners’ eyes light up as they read alongside these amazing athletes was truly heartwarming. The team’s patience and encouragement have left a lasting impact on our kids,” shared ACPS.

The school district says the team brought forth time, energy, and enthusiasm all while serving as role models and inspiring these students.
