OCKLAWAHA, FL (352today.com) – The 1st Brigade, PACS Inc. is hosting another year of living history at the Florida Horse Park, 11008 S. HWY 475, Ocala. The 42nd Annual Ocklawaha River Raid Civil War Re-enactment Living History Weekend will be hosted Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 7-8, 2026, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The living history weekend commemorates the Ocklawaha River Raid in March of 1865. It was the only battle of the American Civil War that took place in Marion County, making it a significant moment in the region’s history. A Union Army raid took place along the Ocklawaha River, leading to the battle and inspiring the annual re-enactments 120 years later. The re-enactments began in 1985, and Marion County has carried out the tradition ever since.
Throughout the weekend, guests will have the opportunity to explore Union and Confederate camps, civilian homestead, historic displays, Civic War era wares and more. There will be Union, Confederate and civilian re-enactors for guests to interact with along with battle re-enactments involving infantry, artillery and cavalry. Kids can take part in the fun with a scavenger hunt amongst camps and displays.
The annual river raid is an exciting way to learn, experience and participate in local history. Admission to the river raid is by donation at individual discretion, though $10 per carload is requested.
