OCALA, FL (352today.com) — A documentary examining the 2023 fatal shooting of Ajike “AJ” Owens by her neighbor in Ocala is set to debut on Netflix. The Perfect Neighbor explores the events that led to the shooting, highlighting the impact of self-defense laws and community tensions.
Netflix says that the film uses police bodycam footage and investigative interviews to present the circumstances surrounding the case. It premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, earning the Directing Award: U.S. Documentary.
Produced by Message Pictures, Park Pictures, and S’OB Productions, the documentary is led by Emmy-winning director Geeta Gandbhir.
Netflix says that The Perfect Neighbor will be available on its platform later this year.
