TALLAHASSEE, FL (352today.com) – In support of President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14172, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in all Commission materials, documents, and regulatory frameworks.

“As a vital resource for the State of Florida and its citizenry, providing both recreational and economic opportunities through fishing, boating, tourism and other outdoor pursuits, the Gulf of America plays a significant role in our nation and state’s economy and leisure activities,” said FWC Executive Director Roger Young.

The FWC oversees several divisions and programs directly connected to the Gulf of America, including:

  • Division of Marine Fisheries Management: This division develops and implements policies to manage and enhance commercial and recreational saltwater fisheries. It also oversees artificial reef projects off Florida’s coast.
  • Fish and Wildlife Research Institute: Serving as the state’s primary research entity, this institute provides scientific and technical data to support the management and conservation of marine and wildlife resources.
  • Division of Law Enforcement: This division enforces laws and regulations protecting marine life and ensures the safe use of Florida’s waterways.
  • Boating and Waterways Section: Responsible for safe and enjoyable boating, this section oversees waterway markers, provides boating education, improves access, and removes derelict vessels.

This name change marks a significant shift in Florida’s official terminology, reinforcing the state’s commitment to the new federal directive.
