OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Sheltering Hands, a nonprofit limited-intake cat rescue and feline spay/neuter clinic, dedicated to improving the lives of cats in need, is seeking licensed veterinarians in the state of Florida to use their time and talents in support of its low-cost clinic. Veterinarians are invited to contribute as little as four to eight hours per month to help provide essential care including spay and neuter surgeries, basic wellness exams, and routine vaccinations.

Shifts will take place at Sheltering Hands’ main clinic located at10397 US Hwy 27, Ocala, FL 34482. This is a wonderful opportunity for retired or practicing veterinarians who want to give back to the community and make a direct, life-saving impact on the lives of some furry friends.

“Spay and neuter services are the cornerstone of bettering the lives of countless cats and reducing overpopulation,” said April LeSage, Executive Director of Sheltering Hands. “Every time a veterinarian performs these procedures, they’re not just helping one cat — they’re helping keep dozens more from facing a potentially difficult life on the streets ending with illness, or euthanasia. It’s one of the most powerful acts of compassion a veterinary professional can offer.”

“We know that veterinarians are busy, and that’s why we’re so grateful for even a few hours a month,” LeSage added. “Those hours translate into real, measurable outcomes: fewer homeless animals, healthier communities, and more individuals who can afford to care for their pets. It’s a direct way to put your training and passion to work in service of something truly meaningful.”

Sheltering Hands has been serving the greater Ocala area for almost 20 years, focusing on spay-neuter-release programs, feline rescue/rehabilitation, adoption, and colony caregiver support services. In addition to providing affordable spay-neuter services, the organization operates a full-scale adoption program including special senior cat programs and initiatives addressing concerns for community cats.

To support its mission, Sheltering Hands operates a thrift store located in Lady Lake at 312 Teague Trail. The store is open,Tues-Sat 10am- 4pm, and offers gently used home goods, clothing, books, and more — with all proceeds directly benefiting the organization’s programs and services.
