GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The “national conversation about war, peace and who really shapes American foreign policy” hosted by independent candidate for U.S. Congress Mike Klein and former Congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, scheduled for this evening in Gainesville, has been relocated.
Klein, who’s running to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Kat Cammack in Forida’s 3rd District, is bringing Kucinich—who famously ran for president in 2004 and 2008 as a Democrat on a platform considered extremely progressive for the time—to town tonight, Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m., was originally to be located at University of Florida’s Reitz Union; an email from the Klein campaign distributed Tuesday announced that “UF canceled the permit for the event,” which is now located at Gainesville’s Hippodrome Theatre, 25 SE 2nd Pl.
No additional information regarding the reasons for the change of venue was released. The latest announcement names the new organization UF College Independents as co-sponsor.
Tonight’s event is being positioned less as a campaign stop and more of a public forum on the specific subject of our nation’s current war in Iran.
Klein, a West Point graduate and combat veteran, has made both the human and financial costs of warfare a centerpiece of his campaign. Kucinich ran for president on similar views; in fact, Klein managed Kucinich’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Klein has appeared in the region multiple times this campaign cycle, including stops highlighting issues with veterans’ healthcare. He was also in Gainesville for a campaign rally on Sunday.
