LAKE COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The machine recount of ballots cast in Lake County in the Republican primary for U.S. Representative, District 11, ordered on Friday, August 21, 2026, concluded on Saturday without changing the race’s unofficial outcome.
Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd ordered a machine recount of ballots cast in the race on Friday, just inside the three-day limit for ordering such a recount of a primary election race as set by Florida state law.

The machine recount was undertaken by the Lake County Supervisor of Elections team under the supervision of the county canvassing board, and was completed on Saturday, Aug. 22.
As a result of the recount, unofficial winner Carey Baker and unofficial runner-up Joe Strada each picked up one additional vote, leaving the unofficial results unchanged.
“Our recount process went flawlessly, thanks to the entire team’s careful attention to detail,” said Alan Hays, Lake County supervisor of elections, in a statement “I am grateful to every staff member and the Canvassing Board for their dedication throughout the election and recount process.”
The Lake County Canvassing Board will certify the results of the county’s primary on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
