LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Levy County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in the search for a man who called 911 for assistance before going missing in the Tidewater Trailhead area.

According to an LCSO announcement, Derek Abrams called 911 to report that he was sick and in need of assistance. He was unable to give his location, and his phone battery ran out before he was able to give additional information.

LCSO deputies responded to the Tidewater Trailhead area of Dunnellon and located Abrams’ vehicle.

“Deputies and assisting agencies conducted an extensive search of the surrounding wooded areas, utilizing K-9 tracking teams and aerial air support,” read the statement, in part. “Additional aviation assistance was requested from Marion County Sheriff’s Office but could not be deployed due to weather conditions. Despite these efforts, Abrams has not yet been located.”

The LCSO asks that hunters, residents and anyone else in the area remain alert for sighting of Abrams, or anyone who seems to be in need of assistance.

“Anyone who has seen Derek Abrams or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Levy County Sheriff’s Office at (352) 486-5111,” read the announcement. “If you locate someone who appears to be experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.”

The LCSO has updated its announcement multiple times, stating that a vast array of resources has been deployed in the search for Abrams, and that he has not yet been located.
